Air Fryer Green Beans with Toasted Almonds

Method

  1. Toss the trimmed green beans with the olive oil, ½ teaspoon salt, and a few grinds of pepper.

  2. Arrange in the air fryer basket in a single layer, working in batches if needed.

  3. Cook at 400°F, shaking the basket halfway through, until the beans are blistered and browned in spots, 10 to 12 minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat and add the almonds.

  5. Cook, stirring often, until the almonds are golden and smell toasted, 3 to 4 minutes, then stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

  6. Toss the hot green beans with the browned butter and almonds, squeeze the lemon over the top, and serve immediately.

Notes

Skip the blanch-and-shock most almondine recipes start with — the air fryer’s dry heat does the same blistering in less time and leaves the beans with actual snap instead of the soft give of a boiled bean. Shake the basket at the halfway point or the ones on the bottom steam instead of char.

Toast the almonds in the butter while the beans finish, not before — they go from golden to burnt fast once the garlic hits the pan, so pull them the moment they smell nutty.
