Method

  1. Combine the berries, yogurt, orange juice, banana, and honey in a blender.

  2. Blend on high until completely smooth, stopping once to scrape down the sides if anything’s stuck to the wall of the jar.

  3. Check the consistency — it should pour slowly off a spoon; if it’s too thick to move, add more juice a splash at a time and blend again.

  4. Taste for sweetness and add more honey if the berries were tart, then pour and drink right away.

Notes

Frozen fruit is doing the work of ice here — it chills and thickens the smoothie in the same step, so don’t thaw the berries first or you’ll end up with something thin and lukewarm. If you only have fresh berries, add a handful of ice cubes instead.

The banana is there for body more than flavor, so a soft, spotty one blends in without leaving lumps. Swap the orange juice for milk if you want it less sweet and more like a shake.
